Early test

Is Tim Lincecum the same pitcher he was last year? We might see today. Last year, when rain delayed by hours a Lincecum start, Sergio Romo started again, but then eventually Lincecum came in, despite having warmed up and cooled off hours earlier.
As the Giants face a likely delay, if not postponement, for their opener today, we'll see what Bochy does with his ace.

Opening Day Observations...

1. As I noted on the Web site chat, Dusty Baker is up to his old antics over abusing pitchers by trotting out Harang for 114 pitches in 40 degrees

2. It seems more base stealing in 2009... 10 steals and 4 caught stealing

3. Del Lords are going to suck with no hitting to speak of

Today's Exhibition Game

It was the only one... brought my kids (3 and 6) who made it challenging to watch but:

- James MacDonald seemed soft... but so is the Giants roster

- Jonathan Sanchez seems like a winner

Waiver's remorse

I was starting to feel bad about letting go of Jordan Schafer, but if he's just going to be Intentionally Walked the rest of the season, I guess it'll be OK.

Giants moves....

I've decided to hijack this blog to discuss the Giants moves so far this off season.

I like the two veteran relievers that will go nicely with young bullpen talent already in place. I also like the fact that the contracts are short term deals.

I'm conflicted on the Renteria deal. I actually believe he'll have a good year with the Giants (and maybe two). But I am starting to wonder if the contracts will drop 30% like the stock market.

Draft Day 2009

I'm hoping to start a dialogue on where and when we should draft in 2009. As I understand it, we're supposed to select a team owner's home town. I'm not clear on the options but wanted to throw out what I personally would support although really I'm flexible...

1 - AZ or FLA spring training location (a week or two before the season starts... could make FAAB more interesting)

2 - LV because it is LV (even though we're not supposed to go back there so soon... I still must suggest as a married father of two)

3 - Minneapolis (downside is new park opens in 2010 which makes it a better year to go)

4 - Seattle (downside is it's an AL city)

who would you like to trot out right now...

I guess I should have made this a poll on our Web site... I was pondering which pitcher I would like to trot out right now to start a game for the Giants between Barry Zit-O, "Fat" Livan Hernandez and Matt Morris (who should still be a Giant if not for a momentary lapse of reason).
